Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council held an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss security developments after Southern Transitional Council (STC) leader Aidrous al-Zubaidi fled to an unknown place.

The meeting was chaired by Presidential Leadership Council head Rashad al-Alimi and included other members such as Abdulrahman al-Mahrami (Abu Zaraa).

“The meeting discussed the security and military developments in the southern governorates” in light of the Saudi-led coalition’s announcement, according to a statement on Yemen’s SABA news agency.

Earlier in the morning, the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said that al-Zubaidi had fled to an unknown place and failed to make it to the flight carrying other STC members for talks in Riyadh on the Yemeni situation.

The council decided to issue a decision to dismiss al-Zubaidi from the council saying he committed “high treason.”

The Minister of Transport Abdel Salam Hamid and the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Waed Badhib were also dismissed from their positions and referred for investigation, the statement said adding that those involved in distribution of weapons and threatening civil peace will be pursued.

During the meeting, the Presidential Leadership Council stressed that the unity of the military and security decision-making and the respect for the chain of command constitutes a fundamental pillar that cannot be taken lightly.

The council said that “any serious breach to these duties makes the perpetrator subject to accountability according to the constitution and the law.”

The council approved a series of urgent matters that included assigning relevant sides to take the necessary measures to protect civilians and public institutions in Aden and other governorates.

“As well as unifying the command and control over all military and security formations; and preventing any movements or mobilization outside the framework of the state,” the statement said.

The council renewed its appreciation for the efforts exerted by Saudi Arabia and the coalition to protect civilians and deescalate the situation.
