Speaking during a summit of NATO leaders in Ankara, the Turkish leader said, “In addition to our diplomatic efforts, we are ready to contribute to the demining of the Strait of Hormuz.”

Erdogan also said that he admired US President Donald Trump’s determined stance regarding efforts to achieve lasting peace with Iran, shortly after the US president said he believed the interim ceasefire deal was over.

“Despite attempts to sabotage the progress toward resolving the Iranian crisis, I commend my friend Mr. Trump's resolute stance,” he said.

Speaking at the opening of the NATO summit in Ankara, Erdogan also thanked fellow allies Spain, Germany, Italy and the United States for providing air defence support to Turkey amid the war in Iran, and urged allies to be in solidarity against all forms of terrorism.
