Saudi Arabia intercepted and destroyed eight drones near the cities of Riyadh and al-Kharj, the defense ministry said on Tuesday.

The announcement came shortly after the ministry said the US embassy in Riyadh had been targeted by two drones. The attack caused a limited fire and minor damage to the building, the ministry said in a post on X.

The incidents come amid ongoing Iranian missile and drone strikes on Gulf states, following US and Israeli attacks on Iran that began on Saturday.

US President Donald Trump said retaliation for the attack on the US embassy in Riyadh, as well as for the deaths of US military personnel during the conflict with Iran, will “soon” be made clear.
