Key opposition figure arrested as death toll rises to four in anti-Maduro protests
A leading figure within Venezuela’s opposition coalition was arrested Tuesday morning, his party said, denouncing an “escalation of repression” amid protests against the reelection of President Nicolas Maduro.
“Just a few minutes ago our national political coordinator, Freddy Superlano, was kidnapped,” The Voluntad Popular party wrote on X, alongside a video of him being taken away by officials dressed in black.

Meanwhile, two NGOs said four people have now been reported killed during protests on Monday against the election victory of Maduro.
The National Hospital Survey, a network that monitors crises in the country’s hospitals, reported two dead in the state of Aragua and one in the capital Caracas. It said 44 people had been injured.
On Monday, the NGO Foro Penal reported one dead in the northwestern state of Yaracuy.
