Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that Russia is going through a difficult period, but that it has taught the country much, state news agency TASS reported.

Speaking at the conference of the ruling United Russia party ahead of parliamentary elections due for September, Putin wished the party, which he previously led, success at the polls, TASS said.
