Saudi Arabia gears up for its largest pop festival ever

Saudi Arabia is gearing up to host The MDL Beast, the largest pop music festival in its history, featuring DJs David Guetta and Martin Garrix.

The Kingdom has been staging pop concerts and other cultural shows since last year, as part of a dramatic social reform program that has also seen women allowed to drive, cinemas opened, tourism visas introduced, dress codes relaxed and restrictions on live music and drama removed.

The MDL Beast festival is scheduled for December 19 to 21 in Banban, a district in north Riyadh. Several Twitter users expressed their excitement about the festival.

The growing youth population of the Kingdom have enthusiastically welcomed the changes on social media. Saudi music fan Fatimah Al Zamil wrote on Twitter: “We are so excited here in Saudi Arabia to host this huge festival and not any festival, its global.”

Lebanese/British DJ Nicole Moudaber, who will be playing at the festival wrote, “I never thought I would ever DJ in Saudi Arabia. I can’t wait to meet all my Saudi friends for the first time at the MDLBeast festival.”

Other DJs to be featured include Tiesto, Steve Aoki, Afrojack, Bedouin and Black Coffee. Popular Colombian singer J Balvin will also perform.

During the night visitors will witness vibrant light parades and illuminated drumming troupes marching across the festival. There will be a food festival featuring 60 cuisines from around the world as well as shopping.
