A New Hope? Ukraine’s Darth Vader runs in polls

The Sith lord appears in a series of campaign ads donned in his dark and menacingly looking outfit

Ukraine looks to be feeling “the force” in the upcoming elections with the Ukrainian Internet Party backing Darth Vader as one of its parliamentary candidates.

The Sith lord appears in a series of campaign ads donned in his dark and menacingly looking outfit.

In one, Vader is seen playing the Imperial March on a traditional stringed Ukrainian instrument with his red lightsaber planted in the earth beside him.

In another, he makes vaguely nationalistic statements in a breathy baritone.

“I’m Ukrainian. This is my land,” he says in one ad.

Vader’s enemy Chewbacca also features in one clip and is seen hugging a statue of a Cossack hero.

Ukraine's Parliamentary elections will be held on Oct. 26.
