Lebanon’s Hezbollah says Israel Yemen strikes herald ‘new, dangerous phase’

Lebanon’s Hezbollah group said Saturday’s strikes by Israel on its Yemeni allies, the Houthis, marked a dangerous turn nine months into the Gaza war.

“The foolish step taken by the Zionist enemy heralds a new, dangerous phase of a very important confrontation across the entire region,” the Iran-backed group said in a statement.

Israeli fighter jets struck Houthi military targets in the area of Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah.

Israel launched the strikes on Yemen a day after a drone launched by the Iranian-backed Houthis hit Israel’s economic hub Tel Aviv.

Israel and Hezbollah have been trading fire since Hezbollah announced a “support front” with Palestinians shortly after its ally Hamas attacked southern Israeli border communities on Oct. 7, triggering Israel’s military offensive in Gaza.
