Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Sunday he hoped his country could soon host the next round of peace talks between Iran and the United States.

“Pakistan will continue its peace efforts with utmost sincerity and we hope to host the next round of talks very soon,” Sharif, whose country has played a key role in mediating between Washington and Tehran, posted on X.

Sharif’s comments on X came after US President Donlad Trump held a joint call with regional and Muslim leaders to discuss the latest developments on the Iran issue. Pakistan army chief Asim Munir represented Islamabad in the call.

Trump said on Truth Social after the call that “an Agreement has been largely negotiated” between the US and Iran adding that “final aspects and details of the Deal are currently being discussed, and will be announced shortly. In addition to many other elements of the Agreement, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened.”

Sharif said he congratulated Trump on his efforts to pursue peace and for holding the joint call.

“The discussions provided a useful opportunity to exchange views on the current regional situation and how to move the ongoing peace efforts forward to bring lasting peace in the region,” he said.

Separately, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Sunday that “meaningful progress” had been achieved in US and Iran negotiations, offering grounds for optimism that a positive and durable outcome is within reach.

The call led by Trump “marks a significant step closer toward the shared objective of regional peace, stability, and an early diplomatic outcome.”

“Pakistan remains firmly committed to supporting all sincere efforts aimed at lasting peace, mutual respect, and regional stability,” Dar said.

“The achievements of these negotiations offer grounds for optimism that a positive and durable outcome is within reach.”
