Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced Monday the launch of ‘HUMAIN,’ a new AI company owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The company’s mission is to develop and manage artificial intelligence technologies and solutions while investing in the broader AI ecosystem.

Chaired by the Crown Prince himself, HUMAIN will offer advanced AI models and applications, including the development of one of the world’s leading Arabic-language large language models (LLMs). The company also plans to build next-generation data centers and cloud computing infrastructure to support its AI services.

HUMAIN aims to strengthen local, regional, and global capabilities in developing and delivering AI solutions, helping unlock new opportunities in the digital economy.

PIF and several of its portfolio companies are working to expand Saudi Arabia’s AI ecosystem through strategic investments and international partnerships. The Kingdom’s strategic location – connecting three continents – makes it ideal for data networking and processing at scale. Saudi Arabia’s growing economy and its young, tech-savvy population further support efforts to build local expertise, research, and innovation in AI technologies.

PIF’s AI strategy aims to position Saudi Arabia as a globally competitive player in the sector, in line with the Kingdom’s broader goals to advance economic development and diversification. Saudi Arabia was recently ranked first globally in government AI strategy on the 2024 Global AI Index.

HUMAIN will coordinate and accelerate various initiatives related to data centers and AI hardware, while helping industries adopt AI technologies. The company plans to deliver integrated digital economy solutions across key sectors such as energy, healthcare, manufacturing, and financial services.

HUMAIN also aims to promote local innovation while safeguarding intellectual property, supporting Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to become a global hub for AI and data technologies. The company seeks to attract top investment and talent from both the Kingdom and around the world.
